Our farm is located on the southwestern end of Salzburg, in the so-called Pinzgau region. Very important to note is that the accommodations are situated at 1000 meters above sea level, with the surrounding valley at 800 meters above sea level. The 200-meter altitude difference lead over a single-lane mountain road which is, although challenging for some, usually not a problem for motorists even in winter. The road is being cleared every morning after a snowfall and has enough options to let cars pass. Nevertheless, it is advisable to adapt to the winter tire requirement in Austria, which applies from November 1st to April 15th. It is also advisable to pack snow chains already from mid-October on, as spontaneous snowfalls are possible already earlier in autumn. We provide links to local weather services under Weather & Webcam and if you have any issues or concerns during your journey, please contact us. The landscape of Salzburg is characterized by the strong focus on the expansion of tourist infrastructures and the preservation of our traditional rural mountain landscapes and their cultural assets. The location of the Unterholzhof at the foot of the Hohen Ache enables hiking to access alpine pastures and the surrounding mountains of the Hohe Tauern directly from the farm, especially in summer. Salzburg’s mountains and valleys offer countless opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts but are nevertheless designed to be very family-friendly so that hiking, skiing or mountain biking is accessible to everyone. Especially noteworthy in the Salzburg region are the countless mountain lakes which, with their crystal clear water and cold temperatures, offer an opportunity to cool down after a hike in the hot summer temperature while also enriching the beautiful landscape. In winter, hiking is replaced here in Salzburg by skiing and tobogganing. Many of the attractions and excursion destinations are listed under region so that you can plan your vacation even better.
